To appreciate the gravity of this wine, it's important to know where Maranges is located.  As you travel south through the Côte de Beaune and are just about to exit the 'Golden Slope' and head into the Côte Chalonnaise - you come to Maranges.  The home to ten Premier Crus, Maranges' most impressive 1er Cru is "La Fussière".  The AOC traditionally offers overachieving - and tremendously undervalued - reds (and a small amount of whites) that express both the essence of the amazing terroir here, and the elegance that Pinot Noir exudes in no other place in the world than Burgundy.
